Dedicated

My boys. My first blog post is dedicated to these three little guys right here! When I was in college, I never imagined that I would carry and give birth to 3 children during my pursuit of education. But lo, and behold, here they are! In a weird kind of supernatural way, though, they never hindered me or diminished my desires to graduate with my degree. If nothing else, they made me want it even more, which made me work even harder. Their mere presence in my life has been the catalyst to my growth, my maturity, and my being. Having the responsibility of being their first teacher can whip even the wildest party girl into shape (true story). I just do what I can to show them the right way! And if you have children in your life that you have any sort of influence over, I would urge you to do the same!

Even as toddlers, they value the importance of going to school and doing a good job. I pray that they continue to hold their education in a high esteem… That they do not accept or adopt society’s expectations of them… That they press on toward the mark set before them… And that they remember that Mommy went to Spelman and Daddy went to Morehouse, paving the way for them to strut down that path to greatness, themselves. My sons, it will be hard. There will be days when you doubt your intellect, your capabilities, and your purpose. But know that you CAN do it! You are still pretty young now, and you might not understand it yet, but something indescribable happens when you collide with destiny. Believe in yourself, because I always have and I always will! Love you.

P.S. That maroon looks good on you! See you at the ‘House in a decade or so!
